On the 19th of November, INTIA's Cadreita estate hosted the autumn-winter horticultural demonstration day, which annually serves as a meeting point for the different stakeholders in the sector. More than 250 people attended the event, including technicians from agro-food industries, seed companies and phytosanitary products companies, together with farmers and students from the agrarian sector.
The event began with a series of interventions on the situation of the national and international market of Brassicas, which were led by Abelardo Hernández (technical director of Proexport) and Juan Marín (president of Proexport and manager of Campo de Lorca in Murcia).
Diego Moreno (responsible of the +Brócoli scientific committee) then presented broccoli as a functional food, with health benefits associated with its consumption widely demonstrated.
Subsequently, a round table on the Brassicas market for frozen foods was held in which representatives of three partner companies of the LIFE AGROintegra project took part: Iñigo Antón de Congelados de Navarra, Juan Jesús Pérez de Ultracongelados Virto and Antolín Imas de Gelagri. Among the market trends, the opportunity that arises from the differentiation of organic products, faced with new consumer demands, was highlighted.
The day ended with a visit to the field trials on the Cadreita estate. In the field, INTIA's expert pest technician Ricardo Biurrun presented the demonstrative tests that are part of the LIFE AGROintegra project and are being carried out on cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, thistle and chard, using bio-pesticides products and promoting auxiliary fauna through the use of flowery bands.
